MUMBAI — Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has been attacked by an armed robber at his residence in Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday. The actor, 54, was stabbed multiple times by the attackers and is undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, the police said.
The robbery bid happened at Satguru Sharan building in Bandra West where Khan lives with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two sons, Taimur (8) and Jeh (4). The incident reportedly took place at around 2:30 am on while the actor and his family were asleep.
The police have started an investigation, and CCTV footage from the area around the house is being reviewed.The Mumbai Joint CP Law and Order has confirmed the incident, stating that Saif was taken to Lilavati Hospital for treatment last night, and CCTV footage is being used to investigate the suspects.
According to reports, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their children Taimur and Jeh are safe.
Dr Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Lilavati Hospital, said that Saif was brought to the hospital at 3 am on Thursday. “Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an unidentified person at his house. He was brought in at 3:00 am by the caretaker. He has six wounds from sharp objects like knives etc., of which two wounds are deep and one close to his spine. A small piece of foreign body close to the spine is identified,” the COO said. He added, “The extent of the damage will be understood once the surgery is completed.”
Out of Danger
Meanwhile, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s team has now issued an official statement saying that the actor is stable and is out of danger now. The actor is being monitored by a team of medical professionals as he sets out on the path of recovery.
The team said in its official statement, “Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe and the police are investigating the incident”.
The statement further read, “We would like to thank Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Dr. Nitin Dange, Dr Leena Jain and the team at Lilavati hospital. Thank you to all his fans and well-wishers for their prayers and thoughts during this time”.
Saif is the son of Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The actor made his acting debut in Parampara in 1993. He was seen in films such as Yeh Dillagi, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Kachche Dhaage, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Hum Tum, Parineeta, Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum, “Love Aaj Kal”, Race, “Cocktail”, “Tanhaji”.
