NEW DELHI – A communally-charged tweet in the name of Indian playback singer Caralisa Monteiro was used to play with Hindu sentiments. It was found to be fake but not before social media users slammed Monteiro after a screenshot of the purported tweet went viral which showed an incendiary content. The screenshot of the alleged tweet read: “Every time a Hindu is killed, I get orgasmic pleasure. Modi might dream of Congress Mukt Bharat, but we will get Hindu Mukt India soon. Amen!”

The screenshot carried a screengrab of a video from 2016 showing Monterio supporting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa elections.

A social media post attached with a screenshot of purported tweet by Monteiro shared by a certain Sandeep Deo said (as translated from Hindi by India Today): “This is Kejriwal’s AAP Bollywood Brand Ambassador Caralisa Monterio. She gets orgasmic pleasure in killing Hindus. The truth is that Hindus of Delhi decorated their pyre by voting for a wicked Maoist like Kejriwal for free.”

The screengrab was shared on twitter by many users demanding strict action against Monteiro.

India Today fact checked the screenshot and said “we couldn’t find the tweet in question on the timeline of Monterio’s verified Twitter handle. Neither could we find an archived version of the tweet on any of the archiving sites.”

The purported screengrab is from January 1, 2021

Caralisa Monteiro also clarified when the screenshot went viral. She denied posting the tweet. “This is a fake tweet and will be reported. Not the language I use. And not how I speak. Will formally lodge a complaint regarding this.”

She later said a case has been registered in this matter.

In the last few days a number of global celebrities have come out on social media expressing their solidarity with farmers who are protesting against the pro-corporate agrarian reforms brought in by the Modi government.
