Snatching away the right to vote is just the beginning, it will be followed by cancellation of ration cards, then land and eventually every other right, says the Congress leader
SITAMARHI/NEW DELHI — Seeing through the deep design of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in deleting names of 65 lakh voters from the electoral rolls, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP’s intention is to replace all these voters with fake ones.
Addressing a largely attended gathering on the twelfth day of the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ here on Thursday, Gandhi noted that the BJP added about one crore fresh voters in Maharashtra and stole the election there. Now, he said, the BJP has tweaked its game in Bihar by first deleting names of voters and plans to add new ones later.
He said that only the names of Dalits, Extremely Backward Classes, Backward Classes, poor and minorities had been removed, while no name of any rich person had been deleted.
Gandhi said the right to vote has been granted and guaranteed by the Constitution. Holding a copy of the Constitution in his hand, he said, the BJP was attacking it by stripping people of their right to vote.
Snatching away the right to vote is just the beginning, he said, and warned that it will be followed by cancellation of ration cards, then land and eventually every other right. “But the INDIA bloc will not allow this to happen,” he declared expressing confidence that the people of Bihar were politically aware and informed, and they will not allow the BJP to steal their votes. He said he was impressed by the political consciousness of the people in Bihar.
Gandhi said he had already caught the BJP stealing the votes. He disclosed that Mahadevapura was just the beginning of providing proof of “election theft”. He said, the Congress will present more conclusive cases, similar to what was uncovered in Mahadevapura in Karnataka, where about one lakh fake voters were added helping the BJP win Bangalore Central parliamentary seat.
The senior Congress leader said having seen through the BJP’s design of stealing the elections by first deleting names of supporters of its opponents, the Congress along with its INDIA bloc partners has embarked on the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, so that the Election Commission of India gets to know that people of Bihar will not tolerate any vote theft at any cost.
Gandhi was accompanied by senior INDIA bloc leaders including Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Dipankar Bhattacharya of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist), Rajesh Ram, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief, and others.
