Prominent actor and activist says what is happening in India is ‘preparation for genocide’
NEW DELHI — Prominent actor and noted social activist Prakash Raj has stated that as things stand today in the country amounts to “preparation for a genocide.” He alleged that the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is to “wipe out Muslims, tribal people, and minorities”.
Raj made these remarks during a public event titled ‘Longing for Justice’ organised by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) in Hyderabad. Although the speech was delivered late last month, clips began circulating widely on social media on Tuesday and quickly gained attention.
Raj is also a film director, producer, television presenter and is known for his works in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and English-language films.
“Please try to understand whatever is happening in this country is a preparation of a genocide,” Raj said. “They want to wipe out Muslims. They want to wipe out tribal people, minorities. That is their agenda.”

He linked his genocide claim to the ideology of the ruling dispensation, asserting that the real power lies with the RSS, which he described as a “demon under water,” while calling the BJP the visible “lotus” floating above.
He criticised India’s democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary, saying, “Shame on you the courts of India. You are committing the biggest crime by killing justice,” and accused them of failing to uphold constitutional values.
Raj also referenced a mass email he claimed to have received from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Constitution Day, November 26, describing it as a “letter full of lies” and questioning the use of his personal data. He contrasted Modi’s written praise for Dr B R Ambedkar and the Constitution with visuals of the prime minister hoisting a religious flag at a Ram temple event alongside RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, asking, “Does this man really have reverence for our national flag?”.
Raj alleged that the ruling ideology aims to replace the Constitution with Manusmriti and reduce minorities and dissenting citizens to “secondary citizens”. To support his claims, he cited the killings of activists like Gauri Lankesh and Narendra Dabholkar, and the subsequent bail and public celebrations of the accused, which he described as signs of moral collapse.
Concluding his speech Raj warned: “Today they are coming for the Muslims. Tomorrow they will come for you,” urging people to speak the truth repeatedly even if lies are repeated a hundred times.
His speech sparked intense backlash from BJP leaders and supporters, who called his remarks baseless, inflammatory, and seditious, demanding legal action against him. Some challenged his claims, pointing out that no BJP or RSS leader has called for violence against Muslims and that welfare schemes for Muslims have increased since 2014 when Modi came to power.
