PATNA — Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government at the Centre over its attempts to erase the contribution of Muslims in the freedom struggle. The BJP, he said, is indulging in this nefarious act in a bid to communally polarise society.
Speaking at a symposium organised by his party in memory of Yusuf Meher Ali, a notable freedom fighter and socialist thinker, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader on Sunday accused the current regime of deliberately overlooking the role of Muslims in the freedom struggle.
“Our youth should know that it was Yusuf Meher Ali who had coined slogans like ‘Quit India’ and ‘Simon Go Back’, which have been immortalised in the textbooks of modern Indian history. The current regime in the country wants to erase the contributions of minorities since it only believes in a Hindu versus Muslim binary”, media reports reaching here on Monday quoted Yadav as saying.
“We, on the other hand, are believers in the ideology of socialism and are committed to treading our own path despite all odds. Our socialist commitment has been there for all to see in the year-and-a-half since we formed a government headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, with the blessings of party supremo Lalu Prasad,” he said.
Yadav also highlighted the accomplishments of his government in Bihar, including the creation of numerous jobs.
Taking a dig at the Centre’s employment efforts, he criticised their recruitment scale, contrasting it with his administration’s substantial achievements in job creation within Bihar. Confident in fulfilling the promise of generating 10 lakh jobs by 2025, Yadav expressed determination despite challenges.
In addition to outlining his government’s proactive measures, Yadav criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, characterising it as contrived, impure, and showy. He accused the BJP of being anti-reservation and recounted his efforts, even while in opposition, to push for a caste survey when the BJP-ruled Centre declined a nationwide census.
Yadav underscored the importance of addressing social disparities through comprehensive data, reflecting his commitment to inclusive governance.
