NEW DELHI -– The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has brought an end to its 27-year-long political exile in Delhi, emerging victorious in the Assembly elections. The BJP’s triumph marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the national capital, as it defeated the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to reclaim power.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the victory, describing it as a victory for “development and good governance.” He expressed his gratitude to the people of Delhi, affirming that the results reflect their trust in the BJP’s vision for the future.

The loss is particularly significant for Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP, which had been in power for nearly 12 years. Kejriwal, who rose to prominence through a political movement for change, suffered a blow as he lost his seat in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. His close associate, Manish Sisodia, also faced defeat in Jangpura.

For Congress, the situation remains grim. Despite being in power in Delhi for over 15 years in the past, the party has failed to secure any seats in the current election. This marks its third consecutive defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.

BJP leaders and workers are celebrating the victory with early Holi festivities at the party’s Delhi office, reflecting their jubilant mood. In contrast, both AAP and Congress workers appeared absent from their respective offices, signalling a mood of defeat.

Political analysts have already begun scrutinising the role of Congress in the AAP’s downfall. However, Congress spokesperson Shobha Shrinet dismissed claims of the party’s responsibility for AAP’s defeat, stating, “It is not the responsibility of Congress to bring victory to the Aam Aadmi Party.”

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah weighed in on the political dynamics, remarking, “Let them fight among themselves.”

This monumental victory for the BJP is expected to reshape Delhi’s political landscape, as the party, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, looks to consolidate its position in the capital.
