Date:

Mansoor Alam, a respected teacher serving for 15 years, was gunned down on his way to school, sparking deep sorrow and anger among local Muslim community

NEW DELHI /PATNA – In a shocking act of violence, Mansoor Alam, a Muslim teacher from Darbhanga district in Bihar, was shot dead in broad daylight by unidentified miscreants while cycling to school. The incident, which took place near Bharwada-Kamtaul road in the Singhwada police station area on Wednesday, has sent waves of grief and anger through the local Muslim community, highlighting the fragile security situation and raising questions about targeted attacks on minority citizens.

Alam, who served as a primary school teacher at Nasirganj Primary School in Singhwada block for the past 15 years, was on his usual route to school early in the morning when he was attacked. According to police reports, two shots were fired by the assailants riding a motorcycle, one bullet hitting Alam in the head and the other near his shoulder, causing his immediate death.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the gunshots around 6 am, which drew a crowd of distressed locals to the scene. The school where Mansoor taught is only about 500 metres from where he was attacked, amplifying the shock felt by students, parents, and fellow villagers.

The victim’s family, residents of Teesi Parsauni village under Benipatti police station in Madhubani district, are overwhelmed with grief. Close relatives described Mansoor Alam as a dedicated teacher and a peaceful member of the community. His sudden and violent death has left the family distraught and in mourning.

Speaking to the press, SDPO Sadar Jyoti Kumari, who reached the site swiftly after the attack, confirmed that police have registered a case and are actively searching for the perpetrators. “The investigation is underway, and we will leave no stone unturned to bring the criminals to justice. The victim’s family will get justice,” she said. However, she acknowledged that the motive behind the killing remains unclear at this stage.

Locals expressed deep concern over the attack. One villager said, “Mansoor Bhai was a kind man who only wished to teach and serve the children. This cruel act has shaken our community. We demand strict action against those behind this.”

Another community leader commented, “It feels like an attack not just on Mansoor Alam but on the Muslim community here. We have always lived peacefully with our neighbours, but incidents like this create fear and unrest.”

The Additional Chief Development and Programme Officer (ACDPO) of Sadar confirmed that forensic teams and the police are jointly investigating the crime scene. “This happened very early in the morning, around 6 am. We are working hard to find the accused and resolve the matter at the earliest,” he stated.

This tragic event has once again drawn attention to the increasing vulnerability faced by Muslims in parts of India, where communal tensions and hate crimes have sometimes escalated. The murder of Mansoor Alam, a humble teacher dedicated to educating young minds, highlights the urgent need for greater protection and peace in such communities.

As the search continues, local people have come together to mourn the loss, lighting candles and offering prayers for the departed soul. The community hopes that justice will be swift and the perpetrators brought to account, restoring a sense of security to Darbhanga’s Muslim residents.

“Mansoor Alam was not just a teacher but a guide and friend to many. His death is a loss for all of us,” said a fellow teacher from Nasirganj school, fighting back tears.
