PATNA — Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday came down heavily on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the brutal killing of an elderly Muslim Zainul Ansari during a communal violence in state’s Sitamarhi district last month.

In a series of tweets, former Deputy Chief Minister Yadav slammed the CM for not arresting those responsible for the killing of 82-year-old Ansari even 25 days after the incident. “The culprits are not being arrested so that they could commit another such crime and Nitish ji could reap consequent communal dividend in the next elections,” alleged Yadav, the younger son of RJD chief and former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

On 20th October, when a procession of Durga idol was passing through Goushala Chowk market area in Sitamarhi a rumour spread that a Muslim man hurled a stone on the idol, and soon clashes erupted between the two groups. A violent mob allegedly attacked Ansari who was returning from his daughter’s house and was on way to his village Bhorhan bazaar.

The family came to know about it only two days after the incident as the local administration had snapped internet facility with an aim to control the communal situation. Post-mortem was conducted on his body at Muzaffarpur, about 75 kms from Sitamarhi, and buried there also to check the tension from escalating. Later, the local administration handed over a check of Rs 5 lakh to his family.
