Bihar: Mosque Vandalised in Champaran Sparking Outrage

Unidentified miscreants vandalised a mosque in Manglapur village that infuriated the Muslim community that calls for swift action against perpetrators

NEW DELHI – Tension erupted in Manglapur village of Bihar’s East Champaran district after some unidentified people alleged barged into a Mosque and vandalised it, causing serious damage to the religious property. 

A video of the aftermath that surfaced on social media on Friday shows prayer mats, fans, and lights broken and scattered across the floor.

The incident has sparked wide-spread condemnation and anger among the local Muslim community.

In a statement on Friday, the local police said that they have deployed a consignment of the force in the village in order to deal with flaring tension due to the desecration of the religious place. According to the police, the situation is calm now and they are contemplating to take legal action against the culprits.

After barging into the mosque the miscreants resorted to vandalism and several things belongings of the mosque were scattered. Prayer mats, fan, electric wires, wall clock were all were on the ground of the mosque. 

Talking to local media, a Muslim man said that the woman was sitting on the copies of the holy Quran and other Islamic books, which were torn apart and scattered on the ground of the mosque.

According to a report, the authorities had reached to the spot, interrogated the woman and taken her along. The woman is not telling her name when she was asked. Later on she was identified as the daughter of some Munna Shah from the same village.

“We have informed her family. We also called Hindu and Muslim people from the village and informed them about the incident. People are suspecting that the woman has not carried out the vandalisation,” said a local man.

“There seems some conspiracy behind this. The authorities who had reached the spot are denying any involvement of the woman in the vandalism,” he added.

While taking to social media, people questioned the Bihar government and police over the incident, demanding swift action to punish the perpetrators and to prevent further unrest.

“This incident is from Mangalapur village of Kalyanpur in East Champaran district. Where anti-social elements have vandalised the mosque. Chief Minister @NitishKumar Sir, have communal elements become unbridled in your government? Take strict action against them!,’ said Journalist Wasim Akram Tiyagi.

Authorities have urged the people to maintain peace and communal harmony and to curb the spread of misinformation that could exacerbate tensions.
