Surya targets Muslim health staff at Bangalore Municipal Corporation, gets most of them sacked

NEW DELHI – South Bangalore MP Tejasvi Surya along with Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs – Satish Reddy and Ravi Subramanya targeted Muslims working at Covid War Room in the Bangalore Municipal Corporation Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) after a case of corruption was uncovered in bed allocations for the Covid patients. Most of Muslim staff were fired even though the police have not identified them in the cases of corruption.
With regard to the corruption, the police arrested four accused Sashi, Rohit, Netravati and Rihan but Surya, flanked by a team of BJP MLAs and supporters, singled out only Muslims, out of 120 staff working at the War room. They barged into Covid war room with a list of 17 Muslim staff and heckled the officials asking them as to how they have been appointed.
A video of heckling of the officials by Surya and his supporters has surfaced on social media in which he can be seen reprimanding a lady official for appointing Muslims. Surya read out the names of Muslim staff and asked the lady official why have these people been appointed at the Covid war room. They even went on to make communal statements asking whether BBMP is a “madarsa” or “Haj House” that these people were appointed.

The list of all the Muslim staff has been made viral on social media where they were blamed for corruption and death of Covid patients in Bangalore. Some people posted those names calling them “terrorists”.
A BJP Yuva Morcha leader Sandeep Ravi also posted the list of Muslim staff calling them “terrorist”.
“If any Bengaluru South resident have lost their loved ones due to non-availability of bed, the below terrorists are responsible,” reads Ravi’s Facebook post along with the list of Muslim staff.
The list of Muslims staff were also made viral on WhatsApp which includes the name of BBMP Joint Commissioner Sarfraz Khan. Khan was shocked and deeply pained seeing his name in the list because he has nothing to do with Covid war room, he said.
“Dear friends , extremely pained to see a WhatsApp message being circulated in social media, where my name is being dragged for alleged mismanagement in the BBMP war room, established for allocation of beds . It was shocking for the simple reason that I have no role in the war room nor do I know any doctor in the war room. War room is headed by Special commissioner health. My job is to take care of BBMP Covid care centres and Solid Waste Management , Dept,” reads Khan’s long Facebook post.
Khan also explained how he has been working day in, day out to serve Covid patients, arranging oxygen cylinders and beds for them irrespective of religion. He had also helped the migrant workers who were suffering last year due to lockdown. During his work, his family was also infected with the virus. Yet, he was targeted for no reason.
