NEW DELHI — As the Supreme Court verdict on Babri Masjid-Ram janambhoomi title suit is expected next week, Dr Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmed, Shahi Imam of Masjid Fatehpuri, the second largest mosque of India, has appealed to Muslim community on Friday to respect apex court’s judgment and to keep cool and maintain communal harmony after the verdict.
While delivering his Friday sermon, Mufti Mukarram urged the devotees not to be provoked even in case of unfavourable decision and let the law take its own course. Mufti Mukarram showed his confidence on the judiciary and hoped that the verdict will come in favour of Babri Masjid as the case was well represented by the able and senior advocates from Muslim side along with all documents.
He hoped that the Supreme Court verdict will be based on the merit of proofs as per the law of the land and not on aastha (faith).
Mufti Mukarram also appreciated the deployment of additional security forces at sensitive areas by the government and the efforts to sanitise the social media.
It is reported that government has deployed security personnel at railways and other important points other than Ayodhya city which will remain the main focus. Government has also asked UP state government to take extra efforts to ensure peace.
Mufti Mukarram, however, has asked the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to designate security officials in around Fatehpuri mosque also for protection.
Maulana said on many occasions in the past Bajrang Dal and other Hindu right wing activists gathered at he gates of Fatehpuri Masjid and tried to enter and harm the masjid shouting religious slogans to provoke Muslims. But they failed in their attempt as people inside masjid remained calm and got not provoked at his appeal, informed Mufti Mukarram.
