NEW DELHI — Amid Covid-19 surge in the country, the Election Commission of India has banned victory processions by political parties on the day of results on May 2 or after.
Results of assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam and Kerala are scheduled to be declared on May 2.
“In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the country, the Commission has decided to make more stringent provision to be followed during the process of counting, in addition to existing broad guidelines dated 21st August, 2020, “ the ECI said in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officers of all States, according to reports.

The Election Commission decision came after a day the Madras High Court slammed the poll panel over the violations of COVID-19 protocols during campaigning for the five Assembly elections.
