Anger Grows in Meerut After Alleged Illegal Sale of Shia Waqf Cemetery Land

Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi demands strict action after claims that waqf land in Meerut’s Abdullapur area was allegedly transferred to private individuals through forged documents

MEERUT — A fresh controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh over another waqf property after allegations surfaced that a Shia graveyard land in Meerut was allegedly sold through forged documents to private individuals despite the matter already being linked to an ongoing legal dispute.

The issue has created anger among members of the local Muslim community, especially after reports claimed that land containing nearly 100 graves was allegedly transferred illegally through a registry document.

The dispute relates to a Shia waqf graveyard located in the Abdullapur area of Meerut. According to locals and religious leaders, the land is officially registered as waqf property under Khasra number 954 and Waqf Registration number 2549.

Prominent Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi personally visited the site after reports of the alleged land sale surfaced.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad inspected the graveyard situated near Qila Road in Abdullapur and accused certain individuals of preparing false documents to illegally transfer the land.

“This land belongs to the Shia Waqf Board and the matter is already before the court,” he said during his visit. “No one will be allowed to sell or occupy graveyard land through fraud.”

According to allegations raised during the inspection, locals Nasruddin and Anwar Ahmad allegedly prepared forged papers and executed a sale deed in the names of Praveen Kumar Tomar and Dev Pratap.

It has further been alleged that attempts were later made to take possession of the disputed land.

Residents of the area said the graveyard contains around 100 graves, making the matter deeply sensitive for the local Shia Muslim community.

Reports of the alleged sale and possible encroachment have caused concern and anger among local people, many of whom gathered during the cleric’s visit to demand government action.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi said he would raise the issue directly with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and seek strict legal action against those responsible.

“Those involved in selling or attempting to occupy graveyard land will not be spared under any circumstances,” he said. “Every person found guilty will be brought within the scope of the law.”

The controversy comes at a time when concerns regarding waqf properties in Uttar Pradesh are already growing following recent demolition action in the Dalmandi area of Varanasi, where a waqf musafirkhana was demolished during a redevelopment drive.

Members of the Muslim community say repeated disputes involving mosques, graveyards and waqf properties are creating insecurity and fear among residents.

Local people in Abdullapur have demanded an immediate investigation into the alleged forged documents and suspension of any land-related activity at the disputed site until the legal process is completed.

So far, officials have not issued a detailed public statement regarding the allegations or confirmed whether criminal proceedings have formally begun against the accused individuals.

The matter is now expected to attract wider political and legal attention as community leaders continue pressing the administration for immediate intervention.
