ALIGARH — In a country where women’s safety remains a pressing concern, a Muslim student from Aligarh has made a significant contribution to enhancing personal security. Mohammad Rafiq, a first-year student enrolled in the Central Professional Course at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh, has developed a unique self-defence tool — a rescue spray designed specifically to protect women from miscreants and potential threats.

The innovative spray was displayed at the Divya Kala and Handicraft Festival, held at the Kalyan Singh Habitat Centre in Aligarh, where it garnered significant attention and praise. This unique initiative has sparked a wave of appreciation, not just for its uniqueness, but for its potential to protect women in dangerous situations.

According to Rafiq, the rescue spray was developed to offer women an effective defence mechanism in emergencies, particularly in cases of street theft or harassment. “This spray is designed to empower women, allowing them to protect themselves from attackers, whether they are facing a pickpocket or an assailant,” said Rafiq, who hoped that the spray would provide women with the means to defend themselves confidently.

The working mechanism of the spray is simple yet highly effective. Once deployed, the spray causes the attacker’s eyes to burn, making it difficult for them to see and overpower their target. Additionally, the spray is said to induce temporary unconsciousness in the assailant, lasting up to 30 minutes, giving the victim ample time to escape from the situation.

Rafiq’s invention has been widely praised for its practical application in improving women’s safety. “This self-defence tool could make a real difference for women, especially those who travel alone or are concerned about their safety in public spaces,” said a festival visitor. “It’s a brilliant innovation that could potentially prevent dangerous encounters.”

The development of this rescue spray comes at a time when women’s safety remains a critical issue in India, with many expressing the need for more accessible and reliable self-defence options.

Rafiq’s invention is expected to provide a vital solution, especially for those women who often feel vulnerable when traveling alone or in unsafe areas.

In the wake of rising concerns over women’s security, Rafiq’s creation is seen as a beacon of hope, and many are hopeful that it will inspire further innovations aimed at protecting women in challenging situations. As this rescue spray continues to gain attention, it stands as a testament to the positive impact that young, innovative minds can have on society.
