SRINAGAR: Father of the eight-year-old girl who was brutally gang-raped and murdered inside a temple in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir in mid-January this year has made some heart-wrenching observations on the ghastly act committed to his daughter and attempts to block trial of the accused.

After three months of difficult, full of odds investigation, the Crime Branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police could submit the charge-sheet in the Kathua court Monday night (9th April) amidst aggressive protest by dozens of lawyers in support of the accused persons. They physically tried to prevent the prosecution officials from filing the charge-sheet despite the fact that the investigation from the day one was being monitored by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Earlier, some BJP ministers in the J&K government had also supported those who were protesting against the arrest of the accused.

In this backdrop, victim’s father has shared the feelings of his broken heart with The Indian Express.

Humari sab se badi adalat woh Allah ki adalat hai, jisme har kisi ka faisla hota hai. Humney usi adalat pe chhod diya hai. Jo mera Rab karega, bas (Our highest court is that of Allah, in which everyone is put on trial. We have left the matter to that court, whatever my Allah will decide is final),” said the man while moving with his family, their 200-250 sheep and goat, besides over a dozen horses, to Kargil. The nomad family shifts to Kargil every summer.

On the communal color being given to the whole issue, he says she did not know what is to be Hindu or Muslim.

“Usey apney haath aur paun mein pata nahin tha, ki mera daayan haath kaun sa hai aur baayan haath kaun sa hai. Kabhi usney yeh nahin samjha ki Hindu kya hota hai aur Musalmaan kya hota hai (She couldn’t tell which hand was right and which left. She never thought who was a Hindu, who a Muslim),” says the 35-year-old father and asks why the accused persons targeted her. “If they (accused) had to take revenge, they could have picked someone else. She was an innocent child.”

Father is sad to know that his daughter was raped and murdered inside a temple which he would pass by every day.

“Policemen, including SPO Deepak Khajuria (one of the accused), would be always outside it. We never thought of searching inside the prayer hall itself as we knew it to be a pious place.”

The details of the gruesome act came out after the 16-page charge-sheet was filed in the Kathua court on Monday. The issue has since shocked and shaken the nation.
