NEW DELHI — ALIG Educational and Welfare Society (ALIG Society), an India based NGO, in collaboration with Dubai-based international iSTEAM and technology company, Coded Minds, has taken an initiative to train government school students (Class 5 to Class 10) from across six cities in India in English Communication, Animation and App Development.

Students from 6 different cities — Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Aligarh, Moradabad, Barabanki and Kolkata — are enrolled for this 8-week course starting from 1st of July 2020.

As a pilot initiative, 70 students have been selected for the programme. More students will be added to the programme in the second phase of this initiative.

This innovative pedagogical approach is the first of its kind, where students of government schools in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal will also be receiving Technology Education from an international company through online classes.

“We, at ALIG and Coded Minds appreciate that closing the education-skill gap is extremely important for preparing the students, face 21st Century challenges. These new skill sets  would act as base for future skills required to succeed in education and beyond. Time has come to train the students in skills which are going to be directly relevant to the industries and careers of the future,” says Dr Imran Ali, Executive Director ALIG Society.

The 70 selected students from 6 cities are being provided with tablets by ALIG Society, for a two-month period. This two-month summer camp would develop a mindset among students to not only break down complex problems into more manageable solutions, but will also equip the learners with developmental mindset, which will ultimately improve learning agility.

Omar Farooqui, founder and president Coded Minds Global believes that such collaboration will go a long way. “Coded Minds feels proud, with the support of ALIG, we will be empowering the children of India with the 21st century Technology skills.”

“Education sector, globally is facing lots of challenges. It is the time to reinvent not just the curriculum but also the classrooms and teaching methods so that our future generation is rightly skilled for the future challenges.  iSTEAM education is a reality and the sooner we accept this reality the better,” said Farooqui.

He said, Coded Minds, which is operating in 6 different countries, is already offering education to hundreds of Indian expatriate students in the UAE.

“In the UAE, Indian children come under the top three demographics of our student data base,” he added.

In the last 12 years, ALIG Society has reached out to more than 30,000 direct beneficiaries through different programs and initiatives in Education, Health and Skill training sectors.

ALIG also imparts skill training to women to make them economically independent and empowered. More than 3300 women and girls have been empowered and trained in different trades which made them able to earn livelihood.

ALIG Society, in month of May and June 2020 during lockdown, also supported more than 3500 families by providing with more than a million meals.
