Akbaruddin Owaisi Hails Party Wins in Bihar, Hints at Retirement from Politics

The AIMIM leader says Bihar results were a ‘slap in the face’ to those who criticised the party as an agent or ‘B-Team’ of others

HYDERABAD – All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has hinted at retiring from politics, citing his desire to rest and lead a peaceful life. The younger brother of the party supremo Asaduddin Owaisi has been a prominent figure in Indian politics, serving as a legislator in Andhra Pradesh and later Telangana state assemblies for six consecutive terms and establishing several educational institutions.

Akbaruddin, MLA from Chandrayangutta constituency in the historic city of Hyderabad, has earned immense respect and love from the people, which he considers his greatest achievement.

Throughout his tenure, Akbaruddin has focused on promoting education, establishing institutions that have benefited countless children.

Speaking at the inaugural function of Dr Nooruddin Owaisi Educational Campus, built under the Salar-e-Millat Educational Trust at Hafeez Baba Nagar in the Old City on Saturday, Akbaruddin said he feels it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation. “I want to rest, I am tired, and I wish to lead a peaceful life,” he said, indicating his desire to step aside for a strong successor, a report in Siasat.com said.

On the party’s success in the recent Bihar assembly elections, Akbaruddin said the results were a “slap in the face” of those who criticised the AIMIM as an agent or “B-Team” of other political parties.

He credited the victory to AIMIM’s “growing strength” and the “magic of the party.”

Extending greetings to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Akbaruddin noted that the party not only secured five seats in Bihar but also supported the victorious Jubilee Hills candidate, Naveen Yadav.

He said that whichever government takes power in Telangana “invariably seeks friendship with the AIMIM.”

“Those who said Majlis’ relevance would end after Revanth Reddy became chief minister were taken by surprise when he extended a hand of friendship,” Akbaruddin remarked during his address.

Prior to the meeting, Akbaruddin took out a padayatra (foot march) in the area before formally opening the new educational complex.

Akbaruddin’s legacy is marked by his dedication to education and social welfare. As he contemplates retirement, he hopes to see a capable leader emerge to carry forward his work. If that happens, he’ll be content to watch over the institutions he’s built, enjoying a well-deserved peace.
