GUWAHATI — The AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) supremo Badruddin Ajmal made his social media debut this week by uploading separate messages in Facebook as well as twitter. At 6.00pm on Thursday, Ajmal posted the following message in social media: “I am leaving for Haj today. Please remember me in your prayers. I will pray for everyone and a peaceful and prosperous India.”

It would be worthwhile to recollect the revolution that had occurred in India during the last Lok Sabha Elections when the Bharatiya Janata Party selected Narendra Modi as their Prime Ministerial candidate and how social media emerged in the scene to propel him to dizzy heights of popularity.

In other words, it was social media that played the crucial role in bringing BJP to power. Later during the Assembly Elections in Delhi also, it was Arvind Kejriwal who made the optimum use of the social media to reach to the electorate and win with a thumping majority. In this backdrop, while Assam gets set for the forthcoming Assembly Elections due in 2016 it is significant that Ajmal has also chosen this time to use social media to reach his electorate.
