ALIGARH – Various political, social, and national organisations have been raising their voices against rising incidents of post-poll mob lynching cases. In this regard, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) held a significant protest in Aligarh on Tuesday.

On the call of AIMIM’s state and West Uttar Pradesh President, Dr. Mehtab Chauhan, workers from various districts, including Aligarh, gathered to demonstrate against the alarming trend of mob violence. The protest saw a substantial turnout, including a notable number of women, who marched to the Aligarh District Collectorate to express their anguish and dismay.

The AIMIM workers handed over a memorandum to the Aligarh District Magistrate, addressed to the President of India. AIMIM District President from Aligarh, Yamin Khan Abbasi, articulated the concerns of the community, saying, “The way Dalits, backward classes, and Muslims are being targeted daily in Aligarh and other places is alarming. The present government, which came to power with the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, has failed to take strict action against these heinous acts.”

Abbasi further added: “Every day, only certain sections are being targeted and their members are killed, yet the government does not take action against the perpetrators. This inaction only emboldens the accused.”

Protesters echoed these sentiments, demanding stringent measures against those involved in mob lynching, regardless of their religious affiliation. “When a Muslim commits even a small crime or is accused of it, his house is immediately bulldozed. Why is the same not done to those who target Muslims and lynch them,” one activist questioned.

The protest was partly triggered by a recent incident where Muhammad Farid alias Aurangzeb was beaten to death by a mob on June 18, the second day of Eid Al-Adha, on charges of theft. The brutal incident, captured on video, went viral on social media, igniting widespread outrage. Despite an FIR being registered against 11 accused, the police have so far failed to apprehend five of the suspects.

The protesters stressed the need for immediate and impartial action to curb such incidents and ensure justice for the victims of mob violence.
