KABUL — Afghanistan’s state-run universities which were closed after the Taliban’s takeover of the country on August 15, 2021 reopened on Saturday, after more than six months.

“Based on a plan previously announced by the higher education ministry, the public universities reopened today in colder climate areas … Students are attending Kabul University, with male and female students in separate classes,” according to local media Tolo News TV.

Students returned to their classes in public universities in a few warmer provinces of the country’s 34 provinces earlier in February.

Earlier officials of the higher education ministry of the Taliban-led caretaker government announced that female students can attend higher education institutions and universities but in gender-separated classes.
