Accusations Fly Thick as Shrine-Madrasa Land Dispute in UP’s Barabanki Intensifies

Date:

Pir Baba Shrine committee claims the madrasa receives funds from questionable sources, urging authorities to intervene and ensure transparency in the matter

BARABANKI – A long-standing land dispute between the Pir Baba Shrine Committee and the Sabirul Irshad Madrasa in the Siddhaur town in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh has taken a serious turn, raising questions over financial sources and alleged ties with banned organisations.

Mohammad Nafees, custodian of the Pir Baba Shrine Committee, lodged a formal complaint with District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi, accusing the madrasa of attempting to seize shrine property under the guise of religious activity. He stated,

“The madrasa committee is trying to grab our precious shrine land. The back gate of the madrasa opens directly towards the shrine, and this seems to be a planned attempt to occupy the land.”

Nafees further alleged that the madrasa might be receiving funds from dubious sources with possible connections to anti-national forces. He emphasised the need for a thorough investigation, saying, “We fear the madrasa’s funding could be linked to activities that do not serve our nation. This is not merely a local land issue; it could have wider implications if proven true.”

Local authorities have reportedly not acted on previous complaints regarding unauthorised constructions on municipal land, raising concerns about local collusion.

Responding to the allegations, Sabirul Irshad Madrasa officials have strongly denied any wrongdoing. Committee member Mohammad Faisal said, “Attempts to intimidate us and tarnish our reputation are unfair.”

Madrasa president Nizamuddin highlighted that the institution stands on privately purchased land, not charitable or government property. He added, “Our madrasa is registered in Lucknow, and we are prepared for any inquiry. We have all the documents to prove ownership and legal compliance for every inch of the land.”

The District Magistrate has assigned the matter to the relevant authorities for investigation. Locals have expressed concern, suggesting that if any part of the political funding claims is substantiated, the issue may extend beyond a simple land dispute, potentially implicating influential individuals.

Community leaders and local Muslims have urged authorities to ensure transparency and safeguard heritage sites like Pir Baba Shrine. One resident commented, “Our shrine is not just land; it is part of our faith and identity. Any attempt to seize it must be closely examined to protect our community.”

As the investigation proceeds, both sides have called for calm, but the tension underscores the need for careful oversight to protect local religious and community interests.
