NEW DELHI — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner, denying allegations that he fled after an FIR was filed against him for allegedly attacking a police team in Jamia Nagar. In his letter, Khan asserted that he is currently in his constituency, Okhla, and accused certain police officials of conspiring to frame him in a false case.

“I am in my assembly constituency, I have not fled anywhere,” Khan stated in his letter. He further claimed that the person the police initially sought to arrest has already been granted bail, suggesting that the police are now targeting him to cover up their own mistakes.

The controversy stems from an incident in Jamia Nagar, where a Crime Branch team had arrived to arrest an accused individual. According to police reports, Khan arrived at the scene with 10 to 15 supporters and engaged in an argument with the officers. The altercation allegedly escalated into a scuffle, during which the accused managed to escape. Following the incident, an FIR was registered against Khan under multiple sections of the law.

Initial reports suggested that Khan had fled the scene, prompting police raids at various locations. However, Khan’s letter has added a new twist to the case, as he insists he has remained in Okhla and is not evading law enforcement.

The incident has sparked a political firestorm, with BJP leaders launching sharp attacks on Khan and the AAP. BJP leader Tarun Chugh targeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asking, “Kejriwal Sahib, the people of Delhi and the country want to know where the ‘disaster’ MLA is today? The disaster party has become a haven for lawbreakers, fraud, and corruption today. This is unfortunate.”

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva also weighed in, calling Khan a “man of criminal character” and citing previous cases filed against him. “This time, he is going to pay dearly. The law will take its course, but we request that such people be given the strictest punishment,” Sachdeva said.

The case has become a flashpoint in Delhi’s political landscape, raising questions about the role of elected officials in law enforcement matters. While Khan’s supporters argue that he is being politically targeted, his critics claim his actions reflect a pattern of behavior that undermines the rule of law.

As the investigation continues, the political fallout is expected to intensify. Khan’s letter and his insistence on remaining in Okhla have added complexity to the case, with both sides digging in for a prolonged battle. The incident highlights the tense relationship between political figures and law enforcement agencies in the region, with accountability and transparency at the heart of the debate.

The Delhi Police have yet to respond to Khan’s letter, and the investigation remains ongoing. As the case unfolds, it is likely to remain a focal point of political discourse in the capital, with implications for both the AAP and the BJP in the run-up to future elections.
