NEW DELHI — The Aam Aadmi Party, that is ruling Delhi for about four years, has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for alleged deletion of lakhs of names from the voters’ list.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia claimed that “10.5 lakh names have been deleted from voters’ list.”

“Around 15,000 names have been deleted from each Assembly constituency, thus it makes a total of 10.5 lakh votes. On what ground has the Election Commission deleted these names? After investigation, it was found that these voters have not shifted to any other place but are staying at the same place,” said Sisodia.

Targeting the BJP for this, he said: “The Election Commission should tell about the number of voters whose names are being deleted. Fearing for defeat, the BJP is getting these names deleted. In democracy, right to vote is itself being attacked. The names deleted must be added to the list.”

AAP came to power in Delhi with unprecedented massive victory in February 2015 when it won 67 out of total 70 seats of the Assembly. While Congress got zero, BJP won three seats.
