NEW DELHI — A photograph from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, depicting a single board proudly displaying the names of both a mosque and a temple, has taken social media by storm. The image embodies the essence of communal harmony and religious tolerance.

The picture showcases the names of Prile Masjid at Vanjadar and Modu in the Thiruvananthapuram area alongside the Melikudi Modu Sri Chamundeshwari Temple. What sets this display apart is the unity it symbolises, with the name of the mosque appearing on the right side of the board and the name of the temple on the left.

The story behind this remarkable gesture further accentuates the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. Following the recent renovation of the temple, the administration sought to install a new board at the entrance of the road. However, they found that an arch-like board of the mosque had already been erected at the same spot. In a gesture of inclusivity, the mosque management graciously offered to share the board, fostering a sense of unity and understanding.

The image, shared initially by leaders from various political parties including the Kerala Congress, CPI(M), and the Indian Union Muslim League, swiftly garnered widespread attention on social media. Users hailed it as a shining example of Hindu-Muslim unity and praised Kerala’s commitment to religious tolerance.

“This is the real Kerala story,” remarked many social media users, contrasting it with what they perceive as Bollywood’s tendency to portray a distorted narrative of the state. The image resonated deeply with netizens, who saw it as a testament to Kerala’s long-standing tradition of inclusivity and coexistence.

As the image continues to circulate online, it serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mutual respect and understanding in fostering a harmonious society. In an era marked by division and discord, Kerala’s example stands as a beacon of hope, inspiring communities worldwide to embrace diversity and celebrate unity in all its forms.
