Three Children Among Five Killed in Israeli Attack in Southern Lebanon

Date:

BEIRUT — An Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil on Sunday killed five people, including three more children.

Israel’s military admitted it carried out an attack in southern Lebanon.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, three children were among those killed in the attack in the southern city of Bint Jbeil.

In a statement, Israel’s military claimed the target of the attack was a Hezbollah member who was also killed.

“As a result of the strike, several uninvolved civilians were killed,” said the military.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said it is “deeply shocked and outraged” by the killing of three children from the same family in the Israeli strike.

“Attacks on children are unconscionable. No child should ever pay the price of conflict with their life,” UNICEF Lebanon said in a post on X, calling for an immediate ceasefire to protect every child.

Despite a November 2024 ceasefire with Hezbollah, Israel has carried out repeated strikes on various parts of Lebanon.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the “new massacre” and accused Israel of “persisting in its violations of international resolutions, above all the ceasefire agreement of November 27, 2024”.

“There can be no peace over the blood of our children,” he said.

The months-long Israeli assault killed some 4,000 people and displaced residents across southern and eastern Lebanon.
