Left Parties Back Justice Sudershan Reddy for Vice President’s Post

Date:

He is an ‘eminent jurist’ known for his commitment to the values of democracy, secularism, and equality enshrined in the Constitution

NEW DELHI — Five Left parties – Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, Revolutionary Socialist Party, and All India Forward Bloc – have jointly appealed to lawmakers to support opposition candidate Justice Sudershan Reddy (Retd) in the upcoming vice-presidential election.

In a joint statement on Friday, the parties described Justice Reddy as an “eminent jurist” known for his commitment to the values of democracy, secularism, and equality enshrined in the Constitution.

“The vice-presidential election is not just about numbers. It is a choice between preserving India as a constitutional democracy or allowing it to become a Hindutva authoritarian state,” the statement said.

Accusing the BJP-led NDA government of “misusing constitutional positions” like those of the vice-president, governors, and the Election Commission, the Left parties urged electors to “put the nation’s interests first” and vote for Justice Reddy.

The appeal was signed by CPI(M) leader MA Baby, CPI’s D Raja, CPI(ML) Liberation’s Dipankar Bhattacharya, RSP’s Manoj Bhattacharya, and AIFB’s G Devarajan.
