Police have registered an FIR; Further investigation is in progress
NEW DELHI — A 15-year-old Dalit student was allegedly humiliated and assaulted by a school owner in Morbi district of Gujarat, sparking outrage and leading to police action under caste atrocity laws.
The incident took place in Wankaner town on Tuesday when the Class X student was reportedly kicked in the groin by school owner Yogendrasinh Zala, who also hurled caste-based abuses at him and told him he was “unworthy of education.”
The victim’s father came to know about the incident through a local resident, Siddharth Vaghela at around 1 pm. Then after some time his son came back home and narrated his ordeal to his father, media reports said on Thursday.
The Dalit student claims that he was simply taking snacks near a girls’ school when Yogendrasinh Zala came and kicked him in the groin and hurled casteist insults, and told him he was “not worthy of education.” He reportedly felt dizzy and collapsed for a short while and was taken to Wankaner Government Hospital where he got treatment.
According to media reports reaching here, the boy’s father, a 40-year-old sanitation worker, filed a complaint at Wankaner City police station under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Following a complaint, police registered an FIR against Zala under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to police sources, the investigation is underway and action will be taken as per law. “The complaint has been taken seriously and a case has been registered. Further investigation is in progress,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
The victim’s family has urged authorities to ensure that such incidents are not repeated and that their son can continue his education without fear.
The brutal assault on Dalit student by his own school owner is not just an isolated act of violence — it is a chilling reminder of the deep caste prejudices that still poison India’s classrooms.
For a child to be told he is “unworthy of education” by an authority figure entrusted with nurturing young minds is nothing short of a betrayal of trust and humanity. Schools are supposed to be safe spaces, where children are encouraged to learn, grow, and dream without fear of discrimination. Instead, this boy was humiliated, abused, and physically attacked because of his caste — something over which he has no control, yet something that still dictates his dignity in society.
