NEW DELHI — The Congress party slammed the BJP on Saturday for secretly dealing with Ajit Pawar, nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, to form the government in Maharashtra and called it “illegitimate” and said will “self Destruct”.
The drama of government formation in Maharashtra in the secrecy of midnight proved to be a bombshell to all as the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance was in the final stages of forming of government and even Chief Minister’s name was decided unanimously.
The support extended to BJP by Ajit Pawar, son of Sharad Pawar, a senior politician has also shocked the NCP and has created ripples in the party and family even.
Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel, who is considered a close confidante of party interim chief Sonia Gandhi, in a tweet said: “Illegal and evil manoeuvres take place in the secrecy of midnight. Such was the shame that they had to do the swearing in hiding. This illegitimate formation will self destruct.”

Patel was given the task to hold talks with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and discuss the common minimum programme before forging an alliance with the Shiv Sena, that has always followed strong Hindutva ideology.
Patel even went to Mumbai on November 12 to hold talks with the NCP leaders and then participated in the marathon meetings with Sharad Pawar along with his trusted aides.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress spokesman and senior leader also slammed the BJP over Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar being sworn in as the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, respectively, of Maharashtra, and said it is betrayal of the mandate and democracy.
Surjewala in a tweet in Hindi said: “Do not look at me like this in the light, I am politics, I don’t wear clothes. This is called: Betrayal of mandate and democracy.”

Slamming Fadnavis for dismissing media reports that it will not take support of the NCP to form a government in the state as it has exposed their corruption, Surjewala said: “The hunger for power cleans all the clots of corruption and principles.”
In another tweet in Hindi Surjewala said:

Ahmed Patel said that the Congress would put up “a political and legal challenge” at the manner in which a Bharatiya Janata Party-led government was sworn-in in Maharashtra under a shroud of secrecy at dawn on Saturday.
Patel told media that from day one after the election results were declared, the role of the Governor in the entire issue was questionable.
“First, the BJP was invited, later Shiv Sena, then NCP, but the Congress was not given a chance to prove its majority or stake claim,” Patel said.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making a “mockery of the Constitution” and said that Ajit Pawar went alone with the saffron party and none of the other Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLAs will support him, reports IANS.
“This is making a mockery of the Constitution. The BJP did the same in Goa, Meghalaya and other states,” said Digvijaya Singh
The Congress leader said that none of the NCP MLAs will support Ajit Pawar. Singh also asked the Shiv Sena to hit the streets to show their power in Mumbai.
rajastha Chief Minister Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also on Saturday strongly criticised the overnight scrapping of Presidential Rule in Maharashtra and expressed doubt whether Devendra Fadnavis can be a successful chief minister in the situation.
In the October 21 assembly polls for the 288 seats, the BJP had won 105 while its pre-poll ally Shiv Sena had won 56. The Congress and the NCP had won 44 and 54 seats, respectively.
