The Centre for Distance and Online Education has announced admissions for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, reflecting the university’s commitment to accessible education
NEW DELHI — Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a premier central university in India, has opened admissions for its online and distance learning programmes for the academic year 2025-26. The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), which has been serving learners since its establishment in 2002, currently enrolls over 20,000 students across various courses.
The university recently released its official prospectus for the upcoming academic year, detailing admissions for a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The announcement was made in the presence of key academic officials, including Prof Mazhar Asif, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Muhammad Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, and Prof Mushahid Alam Rizvi, Dean and member of the Prospectus Committee.
The CDOE has started admissions for programmes including Master of Arts in Hindi, Urdu, English, Education, Geography, History, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Commerce, MBA, MA in Human Resource Management (HRM), Bachelor of Education (BEd), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), and other undergraduate courses.
This move is significant, especially for Muslim students, as JMI has long been a beacon of quality education aimed at empowering the community and offering opportunities for higher learning without the barriers of traditional classroom attendance. By providing flexible learning options through distance and online modes, JMI enables students from diverse backgrounds, particularly from minority communities, to pursue education conveniently.
Prof Mazhar Asif highlighted the importance of the CDOE in making education accessible: “Our aim is to provide quality education to those who cannot attend regular classes due to various constraints. JMI’s online and distance programmes have been a great success, with thousands of students benefiting from these courses. We remain committed to supporting the educational aspirations of Indian Muslims and other communities.”
Registrar Prof Alam Rizvi added, “The release of the prospectus marks another step forward in our efforts to widen educational access. We encourage all eligible candidates to carefully read the guidelines on our official website and apply accordingly.”
The university’s official website, www.jmicoe.in, contains detailed information about the courses, admission procedures, and exam-related resources such as exam letters. Students and prospective applicants are urged to consult the website thoroughly before applying to avoid any errors.
Given the current socio-political climate in India, where educational opportunities for Muslims sometimes face systemic challenges, Jamia Millia Islamia stands out as a vital institution championing inclusivity and equal opportunity. It is heartening to see that despite obstacles, the university continues to expand its reach and empower thousands of Indian Muslim students and others through distance education.
One student, Amina Khan, currently enrolled in the MA Urdu course, shared her experience: “JMI’s online courses have helped me continue my education despite family responsibilities and financial constraints. It’s a blessing for students like me who seek knowledge but cannot always attend regular classes.”
Another student, Farhan Ali, studying BBA through distance mode, said, “The flexibility and support offered by JMI’s CDOE have been invaluable. The university’s efforts are truly helping many young Muslims like me to dream big and achieve our goals.”
As admissions for the 2025-26 session open, Jamia Millia Islamia reaffirms its role as a leader in providing accessible and quality education, especially for Indian Muslims. The university’s efforts counter the neglect and marginalisation often faced by minority communities in education, offering a path towards empowerment and progress.
