Tension grips the city; family calls it a conspiracy, and police promise swift action as the investigation begins

CHURU – A Muslim teenager was beaten to death by a mob on Sunday evening in Churu city of Sekhawati region in Rajasthan, shortly after he returned from a Muharram procession. The incident has shocked the local community and sparked tension in the area.

According to locals, the 17-year-old victim, named Shahrukh, was coming back to his home from Gori Colony, Ward No. 4, after taking part in the Muharram procession and got into an argument with a group of unknown men near the Ghantaghar crossing. The argument quickly turned violent, and a mob of more than a dozen people surrounded Shahrukh and began attacking him.

Eyewitnesses say no one came forward to help.

“People were watching, but no one stopped them,” said a resident who did not wish to be named. “The attack was so brutal, it was heartbreaking to watch.”

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which reportedly shows the mob beating the minor without mercy.

Locals rushed Shahrukh to the DB Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Initial medical reports suggest he died due to severe internal injuries. The police are waiting for the official post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death.

Soon after the attack, police teams from Kotwali, Mahila Thana, and Sadar Thana reached the scene. Because of the rising tension, a large police force, including RAC personnel, has been deployed in the area.

Churu police confirmed that they have identified the suspects.

“The accused will be arrested soon,” said a police officer. “We are treating this case with seriousness.”

The incident has sparked strong reactions from the Muslim community. Shahrukh’s family believes the killing was not random.

“This was not just a fight,” said a family member. “Shahrukh had no enemies. This was a planned murder. We want justice.”

Congress state vice president Rafiq Mandelia visited the hospital and met Shahrukh’s grieving family.

“This is a very painful and shameful incident,” he said. “I demand an impartial and honest investigation. The killers must be punished.”

Shahrukh’s death has left the people of Churu in shock and fear. Many community members have asked for protection and strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.
