The glass-coated thread gets wrapped around Prakash’s face in the northeast of the national capital, badly injuring him. Jazam and Azim took him to a hospital, as dozens of people just watched
NEW DELHI — A bike rider named Prakash was badly injured by Chinese Manjha on the Shastri Park flyover in Northeast Delhi on Tuesday (1 July). While dozens of people passed by without helping, two Muslim youths stopped and saved his life.
The Chinese Manjha is a synthetic nylon string coated with abrasive materials like powdered glass or metal.
Prakash was riding his bike from Shahdara when the sharp Chinese Manjha got wrapped around his face. The glass-coated thread cut him deeply, and he started bleeding profusely.
Many people saw him but did not stop. Then, two cousins, Mohammad Jazam and Azim, who were riding a scooter, saw the injured man and immediately acted.
“We were going to the office,” said Mohammad Jazam. “But when I saw Prakash bhai in that condition, I forgot everything else. We had to save him.”
They rushed him to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital. Doctors said Prakash had serious injuries and needed several stitches, but he survived because he got timely medical help.
“His face was cut badly,” a doctor said. “He was lucky to be brought in quickly. A delay could have been dangerous.”
The use of Chinese Manjha is banned in Delhi because it is very dangerous, but it is still being sold. In a similar case, a man had died earlier on the Rani Jhansi flyover due to the same type of thread.
This painful accident also gave a strong message about unity. “These two boys showed us that being human is more important than any religion,” said a resident who witnessed the scene.
Prakash’s life was saved, and the story of Jazam and Azim has touched many hearts. It is a reminder that kindness and courage can still be found when it matters the most.
