Israeli attack on Iran is a serious violation of international law and a dangerous provocation, says the party’s national executive
NEW DELHI — In a sharp and unambiguous response to the escalating tensions in West Asia, the Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) on Sunday issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it called “Israeli aggression” against Iran.
A unanimous resolution by the party’s National Executive denounced Israel’s military strike on Iranian territory and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.
“This unprovoked Israeli attack is a serious violation of international law and a dangerous provocation that threatens not only regional peace but also global stability,” LJD National President Javed Raza said.
The resolution follows growing international concern over the rapid escalation between Israel and Iran, with reports confirming targeted strikes and retaliatory attacks between the two countries. While Israel has claimed to be acting in self-defence against Iranian proxies, Iran has called Israel’s actions “acts of war” and has responded with what it described as “strategic restraint precision.”
The LJD termed Israel’s actions as a “blatant assault on national sovereignty and international norms,” and warned that such military interventions without provocation set a dangerous precedent in global diplomacy. The resolution underlined that Iran, as a sovereign state, has the right to protect its territorial integrity and people.
“The world cannot afford to normalise these acts of aggression,” the statement read, adding that Israel’s action amounts to a direct challenge to the rule-based international order.
The party’s resolution explicitly affirmed Iran’s “sovereign right to self-defence,” calling it a legitimate response under international law. Javed Raza emphasised that any nation facing an armed attack has the right to protect its citizens and interests.
“India’s own historical position has always been one of solidarity with nations resisting imperialist or hegemonic aggression. We must not remain silent spectators when such violations occur,” Raza said.
The LJD praised Iran’s military response, including its reported targeting of over 150 military installations inside Israeli territory. The party also highlighted Iran’s use of homegrown missile defence systems to neutralise hostile aircraft, describing the move as “measured, effective, and within the bounds of international law.”
“This is not about militarism,” Raza clarified, “but about defending sovereignty when all other avenues are ignored or closed off.”
The LJD charged Western nations, particularly the US and UK, with further fuelling instability in the Middle East. It also condemned their actions.
“Such one-sided alliances embolden impunity and undermine the global effort to resolve conflicts peacefully. These powers must be held accountable for exacerbating tensions in the region,” said the resolution.
The LJD urged the Indian government to adopt a more independent and principled foreign policy, especially in light of India’s historical and civilisational ties with Iran. Calling Iran a “natural ally,” the party urged the Modi government to resist pressures from Western blocs and pursue a path of regional cooperation.

“Our cultural and economic bonds with Iran go back centuries. India must not be seen as aligning with forces that disregard sovereignty and peace,” said Javed Raza.
