NEW DELHI – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday slammed the government for not convening a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent developments. It also condemned the campaign by ruling party leaders and even state ministers to communalise the situation.
The Politburo of the CPI(M) said in a statement that it was unfortunate that the prime minister and his government refused to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent developments.
It urged the government to immediately convene the Parliament session, apprise the people of all developments and also provide opportunities to seek clarifications, if any. It said all opposition parties are unanimous in making the same demand.
It also criticised the government’s decision to brief only the NDA-ruled states about Operation Sindoor.
“The prime minister chose to call a meeting of the chief ministers of only the BJP-NDA ruled states to brief them about Operation Sindoor. This is discriminatory, especially on an issue of national importance. We demand that the government call a meeting of all the chief ministers of the country, including those from the opposition, for such a briefing”.
Taking note of the ruling party leaders and ministers’ provocative and communal statements, the CPI(M) said they should be reined in.
“The government is first accountable to the people of India and should be transparent in its actions. The campaign by ruling party leaders and even state ministers to communalise the situation must stop forthwith,” it said.
In the wake of diplomatic failure, the government announced sending seven delegations to the world capitals to brief them about India’s position on terrorism.
On this, the CPI(M) said that despite reservations, the party decided to be part of the delegation in the larger national interest.
“The government has called the leader of our party in the Rajya Sabha and informed him about the various delegations that it has decided to send to different countries as part of its diplomatic outreach. Despite our reservations mentioned above and while reiterating our above demands, in the larger national interest, we feel obliged to be part of such a delegation,” the party said.
