Bhopal: BJP MP Under Fire Over Sterilisation Remark on ‘Love Jihad’ Accused

Date:

BHOPAL — BJP MP from Bhopal, Alok Sharma, has sparked controversy by calling for the sterilisation of individuals accused of “love jihad” — a term frequently used by right-wing groups to allege that Muslim men lure Hindu women into relationships for the purpose of religious conversion.

While speaking at a public event, Sharma, a first-time MP and former mayor, said, “The government should ensure that those caught in love jihad cases are sterilised.” A video of his statement has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism, The Observer Post reported.

Sharma further urged the public to take aggressive action: “Wherever such incidents are reported, call me directly. If needed, surround the police stations immediately.”

His remarks come after police in Bhopal uncovered a sexual exploitation racket last month, where a group was accused of targeting Hindu students, befriending and sexually assaulting them, and using obscene videos for blackmail.

The Bhopal Police Commissioner has since formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged racket.

Sharma issued a stern warning, saying, “If anyone tries to do such a thing, they will face consequences like never before. Society must be prepared.”
