LUCKNOW — The demolition of a mosque in UP’s Kushinagar has triggered widespread outrage, with locals questioning the legality and fairness of the action. The mosque was razed down without prior notice, leading to a severe health decline for its custodian and Tablighi Jamaat District Amir, Haji Hamid Ali. He was rushed to a private hospital in Gorakhpur, where he is currently receiving treatment. While doctors have confirmed that he is out of danger, he remains physically weak.
The demolition of Madani Mosque, a key religious and community centre for the Tablighi Jamaat, has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters. Residents and community leaders have voiced their anger over what they describe as an unjust and unilateral decision by the authorities.
“We were not given any official notice. The demolition happened suddenly, leaving us helpless,” said a local resident. “The mosque has been here for years, and its destruction has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.”
In response to the outcry, the National President of the Samajwadi Party, Rilash Yadav, has dispatched an 18-member delegation to assess the situation and provide a detailed report. The delegation is set to visit the site in February and will meet with Haji Hamid Ali at the hospital.
According to a statement from the party’s state president, Shyam Lal Pal, the delegation includes prominent members such as Mata Prasad Pandey, Brahma Shankar Tiwari, Radhe Shyam Singh, Baleshwar Yadav, Ajay Pratap Singh, Shukrullah Ansari, Dr. Hassan, Ilyas Ansari, Zafar Amin, Dikko Shabbir Qureshi, and Sachindra Yadav, among others.
Local leaders and activists have called for accountability from the administration, demanding an explanation for the demolition. “We need answers. How can a place of worship be destroyed without following due process?” asked a community activist.
The incident has intensified tensions in the region, with protests and demands for a judicial inquiry. Many fear that such actions set a dangerous precedent and could lead to further unrest if not addressed promptly and fairly.
As the delegation prepares its report, all eyes are now on the administration’s next steps. The affected community awaits justice, hoping for assurances that such incidents will not be repeated in the future.
