AIMIM Struggles to Influence Results in Mustafaabad and Okhla constituencies

NEW DELHI– The much-anticipated “Owaisi factor” failed to leave a significant mark on the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) unable to secure a victory or decisively influence the overall results. The party, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, fielded candidates from two key constituencies, Mustafaabad and Okhla, but failed to challenge the dominance of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Despite contesting these seats amid speculation that AIMIM’s presence would split the Muslim vote and weaken AAP’s prospects, the results have shown otherwise. The AAP emerged strong in Okhla, while the BJP maintained its hold over Mustafaabad.

AAP candidate Amanatullah Khan secured a massive victory in Okhla, reinforcing his stronghold in the constituency. The AIMIM candidate, Shifaur Rehman, managed to secure the second position, pushing the BJP’s Manish Chaudhary to third place.

Political analysts had earlier suggested that AIMIM’s entry into the fray could fragment the Muslim vote, benefiting the BJP. However, Khan’s landslide victory demonstrated that AAP continues to enjoy strong support in Okhla.

In Mustafaabad, BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht emerged victorious, defeating AAP’s Adil Ahmed Khan by a margin of 17,578 votes. AIMIM’s candidate, Tahir Hussain, who had aggressively campaigned in the area, failed to make a significant impact and finished in fourth place with 33,474 votes.

Speaking about the election results, a political expert stated, “The AIMIM’s entry into the elections was expected to create a ripple effect, but these results indicate that Owaisi’s party has yet to establish a strong foothold in Delhi’s political landscape.”

The election results have debunked claims that AIMIM’s participation would substantially alter the political equation in Delhi. The party’s inability to secure a win or significantly dent AAP’s vote share suggests that the so-called “Owaisi factor” has little influence in the national capital.

A local voter from Mustafaabad remarked, “Many of us saw AIMIM as an alternative, but in the end, we chose candidates who have been actively working in our constituencies.”

While AIMIM’s performance in other states has garnered attention in the past, its failure to make an impact in Delhi indicates that the party still has a long way to go before becoming a formidable force in the capital’s politics.

As the dust settles on the Delhi elections, it remains evident that the political landscape continues to be dominated by AAP and BJP, leaving little room for new players to make inroads.
