Karnataka: Police Shoot at Cow Slaughter Accused in ‘Self Defence’

KARWAR — Mohd Faizan Hasan Kavka, from Tonka in Kasarkod village in Honnavar taluk, was shot in the leg by police on Saturday evening after he allegedly attempted to assault the police officers.

Kasarakod Faizan, was arrested in connection with a case of ‘cow slaughter’ in Kondakuli near Honnavar.

When the police took the accused to the spot to take possession of the weapons used to slaughter the cow, the police alleged that he attacked them.

Police Inspector P. Siddarameshwara, Sub-Inspector Rajashekar Vandali, Gajanana Nayak and Ganesh Badni are the injured personnel, reported Times of India.

As per officers they opened fire at the accused in self-defence. The accused and the officers are receiving treatment, the police said.

The police have interrogated over 400 people in the case. They have already arrested another accused Malkiya Taufik of Honnavar taluk. Two other accused are absconding.

A reward of ₹50,000 has been announced for information leading to their arrest, Superintendent of Police M. Narayana told reporters in Karwar on Sunday.
