New Year for Palestinians Starts With Israel Killing 17 in Gaza

Date:

Israel’s genocide in Gaza — now in its 453rd day — has killed at least 45,541 Palestinians and wounded 108,338 others. In Lebanon, Israel has killed 4,048 people since October 2023 and keeps breaching the November 27 truce deal.

GAZA — At least 17 people were killed and several others wounded in Israeli air and ground attacks on Gaza on Wednesday morning.

The deadly aggression on the first day of the New Year targeted Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza and Jabalia town in the north, Palestine’s official news agency Wafa reported.

According to Wafa, 15 Palestinians — many of them children — were killed after Israeli aircraft bombed a house in Jabalia al-Balad.

In a separate attack, two more Palestinians were killed when a residential home in Al-Bureij camp was hit by air strikes.

Meanwhile, witnesses said Israeli forces continued to destroy and blow up homes and residential buildings in Beit Lahia, Jabalia and surrounding areas in northern Gaza.

In southern Gaza, several people were injured in an airstrike on a home in al-Fukhari area in eastern Khan Younis.

The Israeli army has continued a genocidal war on Gaza that has killed over 45,500 victims, mostly women and children, since a Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023 despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. — With inputs from agencies
