Andhra Pradesh: Bajrang Dal Men Beat Dalit Professor Black and Blue

NEW DELHI – Enraged at a professor at Sri Venkateswara University in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati for his fearless advocacy of social justice and Dalit rights, a group of Bajrang Dal activists beat him black and blue on the campus on Wednesday.

The assailants approached Prof Ch Changaiah, dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and started questioning him on his stance towards the rights of Dalits in the country. The argument soon led to an all-out attack on the professor, media reports reaching here said.

According to a report in India Today, the disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the professor being thrashed.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspects involved in the attack.

This incident marks the second attack on a member of the Dalit community in the past week.

On November 27, in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, 27-year-old Narad Jatav, a Dalit man, was allegedly beaten to death by a local sarpanch and his family members for using a common handpump to collect water in Indragarh village. The police reported that Jatav succumbed to injuries inflicted by the sarpanch, Padma Singh Dhakad, and his family using sticks and rubber pipes.
