NEW DELHI – The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) unit at Jamia Millia Islamia staged a protest on Monday, urging the central government to reinstate scholarships for minority students. The peaceful demonstration, held inside the campus near Gate No. 7, saw students rallying in response to what they described as a “critical setback” for the minority community.

NSUI leaders voiced strong opposition to the government’s recent decision to discontinue several scholarship schemes, including the pre-matric, post-matric, and Maulana Azad National Fellowship scholarships.

Addressing the protest rally, NSUI Jamia President Adnan highlighted the concerns faced by students. “The BJP government has halted all scholarships for minorities. We are here to demand their immediate restoration. These scholarships have been a vital support for students from minority communities,” he said.

The NSUI unit’s demonstration called for urgent action, with protestors emphasising the impact of the scholarship withdrawal on financially vulnerable students. Adnan further stated, “Since the BJP government took office, minority scholarships have been systematically stopped, which is a direct hit to our community’s educational prospects.”

A police team was stationed outside the university to monitor the situation, but the protest remained confined within the campus and proceeded peacefully.

The NSUI has reiterated its demand for the restoration of these scholarships, warning of continued demonstrations if the government fails to address their concerns.
