MORADABAD – On the 44th anniversary of the tragic Eidgah firing incident, workers and officials of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) gathered here to demand justice for the victims. A memorandum was submitted to the District Magistrate, urging action and an official inquiry into the deadly attack on worshippers that took place on August 13, 1980, during Eid prayers at the Moradabad Eidgah.

The Eidgah firing claimed the lives of 84 people, including 70 Muslims, who were martyred while offering prayers. The violence also led to the deaths of Additional District Magistrate DP Singh and four police constables. Despite the passage of 44 years, the families of the victims have yet to see justice.

Kausar Hayat Khan, National Joint General Secretary of IUML, expressed his frustration over the lack of accountability for the massacre. “Even after 44 years, the innocent Muslims who were martyred in this firing have not received any justice, nor have those responsible for the attack been punished,” he told ETV Bharat Urdu.

The memorandum submitted to the district magistrate called for a high-level inquiry into the incident and demanded that those responsible for firing on the worshippers be brought to justice. Khan also emphasised the need for compensation for the families of the victims and the provision of government jobs to the relatives of those martyred in the attack.

“This was not a communal riot but a deliberate and planned attack,” Khan said. “The police and administration carried out repressive violence against Muslims on that tragic day. Innocent children were among those martyred, and yet, justice remains elusive.”

The demand for justice continues to resonate within the Muslim community in Moradabad, as the victims’ families endure the pain of losing their loved ones.
