Congress to Boycott Rahul Kanwal’s Show Over Amit Malviya’s Controversial Remarks

Date:

NEW DELHI – The Congress Party has announced its decision to boycott Rahul Kanwal’s show following controversial remarks made by BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya. Malviya had stated, “Before the Congress claims that their own leaders got assassinated, I want to remind them that they were assassinated for the political decisions that they took,” sparking widespread criticism for what many see as an insensitive and disrespectful comment regarding the sacrifices of former Prime Ministers of India.

The Congress party’s decision was announced by spokesperson Pawan Khera, who expressed deep anguish over the treatment of the party’s representative during Kanwal’s show on July 15, Vartha Bharati reported.

Khera alleged that their representative was repeatedly interrupted and not allowed to complete their responses. Additionally, Khera criticized Rahul Kanwal for sharing Malviya’s controversial remarks on his Twitter account and for not taking steps to distance the channel from the comments.

“Unfortunately, it appears that some people still fail to understand the significance of June 4, 2024,” Khera said. “We are compelled to announce that the Congress Party Spokespersons will no longer participate in Shri Rahul Kanwal’s show,” he added in a post on social media platform X.

The controversy has also drawn reactions from senior journalists, who have called on press bodies to take action against India Today. Despite Khera’s public questioning of why the contentious tweet had not been deleted, there has been no response from Rahul Kanwal or India Today. Khera’s follow-up tweet on July 16 condemned Malviya’s remarks and questioned whether the channel endorsed them.
