NEW DELHI – India’s Muslim laders have unequivocally condemned the terror attack at Churches in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo on Sunday. Terming the attacks ‘unforgivable heinous crimes against humanity’, they expressed solidarity with the victims and the bereaved families.

A series of bomb explosion rocked the country claiming more than 300 lives and injuring around 500.

Condemning the attacks, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind’s General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani said “attacks on religious places and during religious festival whether they are in Colombo or in Christchurch mosque are truly appalling and are being perpetrated with intention to create havoc and anarchy at international level.’’ He expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of those injured.

Madani pointed out that these terrorist attacks are another grim reminder of the fact that these are not only posing threat to the entire humanity but they are against all religions. It seems that terrorists are fond of killing religious persons and worshippers.

He invited leaders of all religions and world powerful establishments to stand united against terrorism. He maintained that there is a need to identify common threats and their causes and fight against them collaboratively.

He also conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of Indian Muslims to the President, Prime Minister and people of Sri Lanka.

National President (Ameer) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Syed Sadatullah Husaini has also strongly condemned the deadly serial blasts in Sri Lanka on Sunday and termed them as unforgivable heinous crimes against humanity. JIH president expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended his sympathy with the families of over 200 people killed in the blasts. He also expressed solidarity with over 500 injured people and prayed to Allah for their speedy recovery.

Husaini said that our neighboring country Sri Lanka was living peacefully after passing through years of internal strife, violence, and killings. It is surprising that when there was full peace in the country, this violent incident took place and hundreds of people were killed. This is highly condemnable and tragic.

He said that the series of unjustified killings of humans by humans going on in different countries must stop now in order to keep humanity from further fall. He expressed hope that the government of Sri Lanka will thoroughly investigate these blasts and won’t leave any stone unturned in bringing the criminals to justice so that no one could dare to destabilize peace in the country again.

Navaid Hamid, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, reacted saying, “Those who are responsible for this heinous crime are not only the enemies of humanity but also the enemies of Islam. Because they have not understood the meaning of Islam. Initial reports suggested that these terror attacks were the handiwork of a local outfit in Sri Lanka. But, there are reasons to believe that it is the part of an international conspiracy to destabilize Sri Lanka.”

Reacting to the attacks, Asaduddin Owaisi, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, tweeted “My condolences to all those who have lost someone close to them in the barbaric #SriLankaExplosions. Terrorizing people during prayer is the worst form of cowardice. This is yet another reminder of how alive we must be to the dangers of terrorism in India’s neighborhood”.
