ALIGARH — In a sombre appeal for justice, the Aligarh chapters of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and Rashtriya Muslim Morcha have demanded strict action against those responsible for the recent brutal mob lynching of 35-year-old Aurangzeb, a resident of the Ghas Ki Mandi area.
A memorandum to this effect, addressed to the president of India, was handed at the District Magistrate’s office on Tuesday.
The tragic incident occurred on the second day of Eid al-Adha, in the late hours of June 18, when Aurangzeb was beaten to death by a mob. The horrific event was captured on video, which later went viral on social media. Following the video’s circulation, police registered a case against 11 suspects. However, five of the accused remain at large.
Leaders and members of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and Rashtriya Muslim Morcha expressed their concern over the situation, particularly following demonstrations by certain Hindu organisations and BJP leaders in support of the accused. One such demonstration on Railway Road included the participation of Mukta Raja, the MLA from Aligarh city. This led to heightened tensions in the sensitive areas of Aligarh, which were eventually brought under control by the administration.
“We demand that the charges against Aurangzeb’s attackers remain unchanged and that there be no influence or pressure to alter the legal proceedings,” stated a representative of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind. “Aurangzeb was an innocent man, brutally killed by a mob, and it is unacceptable that the accused should be released or shielded from justice,” he said.
The organisations called for immediate and firm action against all individuals involved in the incident. They also warned that if justice is not served swiftly and effectively, and if the issue of mob lynching is not addressed at the national level, they will initiate a country-wide campaign.
“We seek justice for Aurangzeb’s family and a strong stance against mob lynching to prevent such incidents in the future. If our demands are not met, we are prepared to escalate this issue to a national campaign,” a spokesperson from Rashtriya Muslim Morcha asserted.
