Cow Vigilantes with Bajrang Dal Ties Thrash Muslim Trader in Karnataka

NEW DELHI — A Muslim cattle trader was severely thrashed by a group of 15-20 cow vigilantes, said to be associated with the Hindutva outfit Bajrang Dal, in Babaleshwar Taluk in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district recently.

Media reports reaching here on Monday said the victim, identified as Bande Nawaz, was transporting two bulls, a buffalo calf, and a cow from Babaleshwar to Vijayapura when the cow vigilantes intercepted his vehicle. The attackers were reportedly associates of Bajrang Dal leaders Viresh Hiremath and Raju Biradara.

The assaulters raided Nawaz’s vehicle and on finding cattle inside they thrashed him brutally, leaving him bleeding profusely.

A video shows the victim getting medical care in a district hospital. It was not clear who took Nawaz to the hospital and the severity of his injuries. However, the video shows the victim’s body having severe wounds and blood clotting markings. 

Following the incident that sparked outrage, there have been several calls for stern action against the group.

A case has been filed at the Babaleshwar police station concerning the attack. Authorities have launched an investigation into the case.
