NEW DELHI – A mob of right-wing Hindutva men led by Bajrang Dal members attacked a Christian missionary school in Betul district in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, reports reaching here said on Tuesday.

Bajrang Dal members, including a woman, allegedly forced their entry into the school as prayers were going on. The right-wingers claimed that the Christian community members were conducting “forced religious conversions” and said that locals were forced into praying at the empty school.

Attempts to contact Betul police station did not bear fruit. However, a video circulating on social media captures scenes of the alleged attack.

In a similar incident in September 2023, Sagar district witnessed right-wing Hindutva supporters storming St. Mary’s Convent School, accusing it of disrespecting a Hindu god. The mob demanded a police investigation against the principal, creating a disturbance by entering her cabin.

Principal Sister Sarita Joseph strongly refuted the allegations, emphasising the school’s respect for all religions without bias. “We offer education to all our students equally,” she said.
