NEW DELHI — Recent efforts to iron out differences in Imarat Shariah in Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand have hit a snag as the unit in Jharkhand remains steadfast in its opposition to any reconciliation.
Imarat Shariah is a socio-religious organisation of the Muslim Ummah in Bihar, Orissa and Jharkhand in particular and other parts of the country in general and is situated in Phulwari Sharif, Patna. Set up in 1921, it is based on the cardinal principles of Islam and its Shariah laws.
Initially defiant, the Jharkhand unit reportedly has somewhat mellowed its stance. But sincere efforts for an understanding between different factions are yet to materialise. Clarion India’s sources from Ranchi suggest a lack of proactive measures from the central office in Phulwari Sharif, which is now actively seeking the support of influential figures.
Efforts to establish contact with the “self-proclaimed” Ameer-e-Shariat in Jharkhand have reportedly been fruitless, resulting in a continued deadlock. The absence of progress in addressing concerns raised by Maulana Nazare Tawheed has further complicated the situation, posing a serious threat to the unity of Imarat Shariah.
Reports indicate that Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, has thrown his weight behind Imarat Shariah. Maulana Rahmani stressed the duty of all Muslims to establish and maintain a collective system, urging the warring factions to address their misunderstandings and prevent a division within the Muslim community.
In an official statement released by the Imarat Shariah, Maulana Rahmani expressed hope that the current Ameer and officials of Imarat Shariah would heed to his advice. He also emphasised the paramount importance of avoiding division in the Ummah.
Simultaneously, Maulana Muhammad Umrain Mahfouz Rahmani, Secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, highlighted the critical period facing Indian Muslims. He underscored the need for mutual unity, expressing concern over the announcement of the establishment of a separate Imarat Shariah in Jharkhand.
He urged leaders of religion and wisdom in Jharkhand to prioritise unity, acknowledging the century-long services of the Imarat Shariah. He concluded with a prayer for divine support and guidance to overcome internal discord and challenges. The evolving situation underscores the delicate balance required to navigate religious unity in the face of dissenting voices within the Imarat Shariah.
