Israeli-Owned Cargo Ship Attacked by Iran in Indian Ocean

Date:

TEL AVIV – An Israeli-owned cargo ship was reportedly attacked on Friday by an Iranian drone in the Indian Ocean, Israeli media reported.

Citing an unnamed US security source, Israeli Channel 12 reported on Saturday that a ship named the CMA CGM Symi, owned by an Israeli businessman, was “attacked by an Iranian drone in the Indian Ocean.”

The Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen channel confirmed that “an Israeli ship was targeted in the Arabian Sea on Friday, hours before implementation of the current humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip.”

The ship reportedly caught fire after being targeted by an Iranian drone, according to Al-Mayadeen.

No casualties were reported.

This is the second time an Israeli-owned cargo ship has been attacked in recent days. Last Sunday, Yemen’s Houthis announced that they had captured an Israeli ship in the Red Sea and taken it to the Yemeni coast.

News of the attack comes amid the humanitarian pause in Israel’s massive military campaign against the Gaza Strip, launched last month following a cross-border attack by Hamas.

Israel has killed at least 14,854 Palestinians, including 6,150 children and over 4,000 women, according to health authorities in the enclave.

The official Israeli death toll stands at 1,200. -AA
