NEW DELHI – In a press release on Wednesday, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, a prominent socio-religious organization in India, addressed several critical issues, including the Women’s Reservation Bill, offensive language used by BJP MPs in Parliament, mob lynching incidents, sexual violence against women, and the Bihar Caste Census Population Report.

Women’s Reservation Bill: A Step Towards Gender Equality

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind acknowledged the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, now known as the “Nari Shakti Vandan Act-2023,” which reserves 33% of seats exclusively for women in both the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. However, the organization expressed concern that the law excludes women from OBCs and the Muslim community, despite their socio-economic challenges. They emphasized the importance of representation for all groups and classes in a diverse country like India and called for more inclusive policies.

BJP MPs’ Offensive Language in Parliament

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind strongly condemned the use of offensive language by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri against BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha. They expressed disappointment with the Prime Minister’s silence on the matter and called for Bhiduri’s disqualification as an MP and his dismissal from the party, asserting that anything less would undermine Indian democracy.

Mob Lynching and Sexual Violence Against Women

The organization expressed grave concern over the increasing incidents of mob lynching targeting Muslims and sexual violence against women in India. They highlighted recent cases of mob lynching, emphasizing that these incidents result from the spread of communal hatred. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind called for comprehensive solutions, including stringent laws and moral reforms in society, to combat sexual violence against women.

Caste Survey in Bihar: A Call for Equity

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind welcomed the Bihar Caste Census Population Report, emphasizing the need for a national caste census to obtain updated data on marginalized and deprived sections of society. They argued that such data would help policymakers design more accurate welfare programs and address social inequities. The organization stressed that benefits and reservations should align with the population of various social classes.

Delhi Police Raids on Journalists: A Threat to Freedom of Expression

The press release strongly condemned early morning raids by the Delhi Police on the residences of journalists, comedians, and commentators. These raids were conducted as part of an investigation into alleged “terror connections” in the funding of the news portal “Newsclick.” Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expressed concern that the government’s actions threatened freedom of expression and called on all justice-loving individuals to condemn these actions.

In their statement, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind underscored the importance of upholding democratic values, equality, and freedom of expression in India. The organization’s stance reflects a commitment to addressing pressing issues and advocating for a more inclusive and just society.
