NEW DELHI — The Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPM) has welcomed an FIR against Kajal Shingla alias Hindustani of Gujarat for making a hate speech against the Muslim and Christian communities in Mira-Bhyander, a city and municipal corporation in Thane District in Maharashtra, in March.

At the event, organised by a fanatic Hindutva group, ‘Jan Awach Morcha’, Kajal alleged that Mira Road area of the city has become a drug den. She claimed that Muslim hawkers were selling products mixed with impotence drugs and that ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Land Jihad’ were rampant in the area. Using the terms ‘Chadar Wala’ and ‘Father Wala’, she targeted the Muslim and Christian minorities.

A delegation led by Sadik Basha of the CPM, Sukhdev Banbansi of Aam Admi Party (AAP) and Sabi Fernandes of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray group) met the Commissioner of Police and demanded action against those who delivered hate speeches at the event as well as the organisers of the meeting.

Kajal has been booked by the local police under Sections 153 (A) and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code IPC for disturbing the peace and communal harmony in the Mira Bhyandar area.

“But Hindutva organisations like Shiv Pratisthan, Hindu Rashtra Sena and Sanatan Sanstha, which jointly took out provocative marches across the state under the banner of Sakal Hindu Samaj are still not under the law and order radar. All these marches had a lot of participation and support from BJP leaders. But no action has been taken against the BJP and participating leaders so far,” a CPM statement issued in Thane said.

The CPM has demanded that cases be filed immediately against ‘Jan Awach Morcha’, state BJP, MNS and Shiv Sena leaders present at the event.

The memorandum for the FIR against Kajal was signed by several organisations including DYFI, Haq Hai, Nirbhay Bharat, VBA , Jiddi Maratha, All India Loaners Union, Congress Party, NCP, MBPS, Pahal Foundation, Tirchi Ankh Weekly and office-bearers of many political parties and other groups.
